Accident Reconstruction

Initial Investigations:
Each incident involves inspecting the scene and the vehicles involved to document and preserve evidence relating to the incident. Video and photo documentation of the scene are crucial components of each investigation. First responder and police reports are retrieved and analyzed, media coverage is reviewed and analyzed, weather and lighting conditions are documented, and witnesses and the parties involved are interviewed.

Site inspection includes analysis of marks on road, crash debris, vehicle fluid spills, line-of-sight surveys, road defects, etc. When warranted, I-ENG-A dispatches their in house team of land surveyors to perform detailed documentation of the scene and evidence collection. The survey evolves into a detailed three dimensional model of the scene, which includes all relevant features of the scene such as topography, site distances, locations of skid marks, fluid spills, crash debris, fixtures of the scene, etc. All police marks should be identified, located by measurement and recorded. The digital model of the scene usually serves as a base map for exhibit preparation and/or the basis for crash reconstruction modeling.

Analysis:
A proper scientific analysis based upon verifiable fact and natural law is established.

Inspecting and documenting the vehicle condition may include inspection of vehicle components, recording of damage patterns and mechanical conditions, determination of headlight, signal light and/or brake light conditions at the time of impact, researching the maintenance history of the vehicles involved, and/or researching the vehicles’ compliance history concerning operation and/or regulatory standards.

Conclusions:
The incident is reconstructed to determine the motion and direction of the vehicles prior to the incident, the orientation and position of vehicles at impact and the vehicle speeds and dynamics prior to and after impact.
In conjunction, I-ENG-A’s biomechanics advisory team may be called upon to investigate the relationship of the incident to the injuries sustained.
